Too few KOs, too many DQs

Post by brumcg »

I've been running a universe with 65 Randomly Generated middleweights, and I've noticed I'm getting too few KOs and too many DQs. Most fighters have over 20 bouts, some have over 70.

Most bouts were scheduled for 10+ rounds.

Out of 1252 fights, I've had:

74 DQ's (5.9%)
29 KO's (2.3%)
69 TKO's (5.5%)
23 Draws (1.8%)
1057 Decisions (84.4%)

I'm actually surprised the DQ number was that low. I do mostly tournaments and then a feature 6-match card with a title match; on the 6-match card, it's not uncommon to see 2 DQs. Of the 33 Title fights (all on the 6-match cards), 6 of the bouts ended in DQs (18.2%).

To try to do a test to see if it's the random generator, I did two 32 man round robin tournaments with random middleweights from 1930 to 2013 (won by Jake Lamotta and Bernard Hopkins with 30 wins each and then Rubin Carter with 29 wins).

Most bouts were scheduled for 10+ rounds.

Out of 992 fights, I had:

20 DQs (2.0%)
179 KOs (18.0%)
226 TKOs (22.8%)
0 Draws (Tournaments)
567 Decisions (57.2%)

Okay, so I duplicated that with Random Fighters. I generated the same number of fighters in their prime and did the same tournaments as above.

Out of 992 fights, I had

35 DQs (3.5%)
2 KOs (0.02%)
40 TKOs (4.0%)

Yikes.

So... that tells me it's the Random Generator. Trying to do some comparisons, it looks like the KDR1, KDR2, and KOR ratings for random fighters are WAY too good. Not surprising, it looks like the Fouls are a bit off too, but not as bad as my small sample size universe indicates.

Oddly, a few users have complained there are too many knockouts!
