Wish List for 2014

Title Bout 2014 will need a few things, but two basic functions would be an AI that controls the bulk of boxers not run by the gamer and some sort of customizable Out-of-Action or Suspensions function that would make injured boxers unavailable for action for mandated periods of time. The latter might even be era or jurisdiction-specific as boxing has always been a hodge-podge of laws and regulations reflecting its gypsy-like nature as a sport.

Hi Paul final got in here!!

If there is anything I'd like to see is with the divisions for the next edition. When the divisions come up, you should see the weights that are allowed for each division In both American weights
and British weights (i.e. stones and ounces so to speak!). this way when we choose fighters for each fight we can raise or lower which also should have a bearing on their fitness. which I think would be good.

It's almost Christmas so here's my other wish for next year. I'd like to see the Fight Screen redesigned, more a combination of the best of 2.0 and 2013. A somewhat smaller animation screen with smaller figures in the ring and a larger text box for easier reading. [If a paragraph of text is too long it skips past you before you have a chance to read it.] And, of course, bigger fighter pics. :D

The problem with a smaller animation screen, in favor of a larger text box, is that it makes it very difficult to customize the animations. I prefer to use screen lifts from movies of actual fights rather than the generic animations of the game. These readily can be substituted in any of the TB versions; however, one problem is the resolution. The screen in 2.5 was so unusual in terms of width vs. height that most photos simply don't fit (and others need major cropping). That does not work for me.

I don't want to hurt Cap's eyes. I vote for some kind of feature which allows the purchaser to control the allocation of animation and text space. Animations allowed should be anywhere from 3 X 4 or 4 X 5 to as narrow a height as makes Cap comfortable.

Not that I don't like the present animations. It's just that often I didn't bother watching them because I wanted to read the details of the action. There is only so much screen space available to allocate for titles at the top, animation, and fight detail. The text was being squeezed out by the animation, which is nice, but not really an accurate depiction of what's happening in the ring. Often a guy hit the canvas before a punch was landed. :lol:

I particularly enjoy it when a fighter gets knocked out (the ref could have counted to 100!) then one second later the animation shows him standing in the middle of the ring with the ref waiting for his opponent's hand to be raised.

At that point it should show the one guy down and the announcer should say this fight has ended by way of knockout, like it used to. Not sure if Paulie will bother to correct this before starting work on the RPG version.

In addition to all that other stuff up there, how about fixing it so you can set certain screens (or all of them) to sepia tones for pre-1940s, sharp black and white for 1940-1950s, and colour for the 1960s onwards?

How difficult would that be?

Mass Sim mode. It would be cool to be able to pick fighters and set them to fight 1,000 times or more. When the fights are over get an output report breaking down the fights.

I thought you could do this now? I know in previous versions I simmed a 1000 fights and then viewed the breakdown afterwards like how many times each guy won, how, etc.

The ability to have fighter pics, "scroll" from round to round.
same as the ring card girls do. Then, we gamers can add more
pics, to customize the game even more.

Another I would like to see added... Perhaps to the Statistics tab?

More data on Performance Points. Like maybe Avg, Avg in wins, last 10 fights, career, etc.

I feel this is a PURE measure of how a fighter is performing in your Uni. This allows for
a fighter to gain when he gets the big 70+ point upset, or a surprise KO, and to taper off
with a fight going the distance, or against a lesser opponent.

Any opinions out there?

I'm going to apologize ahead of time because this is probably going to be a rambling mess.

All of this has to do with Career or Manager Mode - which I pray is in 2014.

- Static attributes.
Very few attributes will improve or decrease throughout their careers.
I hate how in most boxing video games your fighter always starts off with 50's across the board and slowly builds into a 90's or 100's fighter.
Tyson started with crazy power and handspeed. He didn't start with 50 and move up.

- Various Fighter Personalities.
Each fighter will have different characteristics that need to be handled adn dealt with.
Some fighters might be lazy where you have to beg them to come to the gym.
Others live and breath the work and you have to force them to leave so they can remain fresh.
Maybe some fighters are like Hatton who balloon in weight between fights and take years off their careers.
Others might get into trouble outside the gym so certain variables may occur (broken hand in street fight, drunk driving charge, gun charge, etc).

- Local, Regional and National popularity.
When you start, you have a small gym and have to put on local cards to earn money and upgrade your gym, cutmen, trainers and pay basic bills (electrical, heat, etc).
Some fighters, who may not have championship calibre talent might have a tremendous local appeal.
Others might have great potential but lack the personality or skill set to capture national attention (think Cory Spinks).
It would be much tougher getting a Spinks-type fighter a title shot than say a Trinidad.

Your fighters local, regional and national popularity will adjust as you win, lose, or even how you win and lose.
Even 'opponents' can gain notoriety if fans know that every fight will end with a KO.

- Lambs to Slaughter.
Working off the above concept, here's a scenario that you, as a manager, might find yourself in.
You have a very heavy handed HW fighter who is a big hit with the locals. He knocks everyone out and he's the main attraction on your local cards - which are always sold-out.
You also have a light-hitting, but swift, talented and defensively gifted welterweight. You know he has the stuff to earn a title shot. He's just not that popular because a majority of his fights wind up in the judges hands.
A promoter comes to you with a proposition. He has a top rated HW contender who needs to crack the top-10 rankings and put himself into Belt picture.
The promoter has a fight lined up for his guy on an ESPN After Dark showcase. He just needs a big HW with a solid record to springboard his boy into the limelight.
You both know that your local HW is going to get killed. He's got heavy hands, but a weak chin and will get humbled by the promoters prospect.
BUT, the promoter says that if you agree to sacrifice your boy, he'll put your welterweight on the undercard and give him some much needed national exposure.
You know this is what's needed to get your WW the exposure he needs.
But you also know that if/when your HW gets destroyed and humbled on national TV, he may quit and there goes your Local golden goose.
What do you choose?

How about a News report when you start up the game (the future career version)? It would recap some of the last bouts you had and show you where your boxers are ranked. No idea how difficult that would be to programme.

To streamline things for the new version in 2016 how about getting rid of the head to head function. Does anyone actually use it?
Then do everything else we've already mentioned in these threads, or pick the 5 or 6 most popular.

Also when one of us wins the lottery he should invest a portion of it in hiring two or three more programmers to really fix this shamozzle up right.

I think that the judges, referees, cornermen, and ring announcers are in need of updating.
