Mac OS X v. 10.5.8 License Issue

Post by Wally03 »

After hearing of the patch that was released to address the issue of constantly having to re-register OOTP 10 on a computer that was occasionally disconnected from the internet, I followed the steps listed to remove the license from my current game and proceeded to download OOTP 10.2.18. Now every time I start the program I am asked to register the program, which I realized would happen, but no matter which license key I enter I am told the product was not activated and will run in demo mode. On the PISD webstore I see that one my licenses is still believed to be in use and am unable to register my game and get out of demo mode. I was hoping you might be able to assist me with the difficulties I am having. I see in other topics regarding similar Mac licensing issues you have requested that the user go through and do a manual registration and send the resulting authorization code, so I have sent the code in a PM to Paul Norman.

Thank you I have got your manual register string. You are the second person to have issue with 10.2.18 build so there must be something strange happening. I am flying out to Germany later today to meet with the OOTP development chaps which means I am unsure when I will be able to work through you issue. I will try and do it while I am waiting for the plane ;)

Not a problem, I certainly didn't expect you stop everything and work on this problem immediately. I thought others might be having similar problems and appreciate any insight you'll be able to eventually offer.

I am back from Germany and I have looked at your license string. I can't see anything wrong. Are you still having trouble? If so please send me another offline string like before so I can look to see if anything has changed.

I have the latest version - it is now running in demo mode and prompts me to enter the serial number - which I then do (copy/pasted from my login info) and it then says that the product was never activated and will continue to run in demo mode. Am I doing something wrong?

HI,

It sounds like you are doing the right things so we need to work it through from the beginning. Can you private message me the serial number you are using so that I can check it out. Also please tell me the version number displayed at the top of the entry screen as we are doing patch builds and I have lost track of the latest release number ;) Are you using Mac or Linux? Do you have a working internet connection when you are trying to license the game?

pete_mcgowan - (via email) wrote:Hi Paul -

I do have a working internet connection when registering the game. The version I am trying it on is 10.2.18. My serial numbers is (I have two registered) xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx. The game worked for awhile - then stopped...and I opened a second serial # which is xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx and now that one won't work either. I am operating on a mac with snow leopard - so I have the latest update for that as well...hope this helps!

Thanks for your time!
Pete
Ah, this explains it! If you log in to your webstore account you will see your licenses have got stuck. This should not happen very often although during earlier versions of the game it did happen when the system was updated. It is easy to fix, you simply request a license release from your webstore account. This FAQ explains how to do it and how to retrieve your username and password if you have forgotten them:

You need to follow the instructions in the section "Q. My license has got stuck what can I do?". If you need any further help please let me know.
